What Is the Difference Between a Car Wash and Auto Detailing?

There is a difference between a car wash and auto detailing. Basically, the difference comes down to more than the cost. Cost calculations include many variables ranging from the type and size of your automobile to how many services you request in your car washing or car detailing process.

Car Wash

Generally, with a car wash, your car is run through a machine with harsh brushes. The car is dried with air driers and, sometimes, by hand. Most often, a car wash will include interior vacuuming, window cleaning, a quick wipe of the dash and console and then hand dried to finish it off. The cost of a car wash is approximately $10.00 to $16.00, depending on the size of your car and the amount of "hands on" service you are receiving. The cost to wash an SUV or minivan will be more than the cost to wash a regular sedan.

Auto Detailing

Auto detailing is much more involved than car washing. The result of auto detailing is designed to leave your car in showroom condition, unlike a car wash which is simply designed to clean your car.

Generally a basic detailing package includes a hand wash, wax, tire cleaning, vacuuming of the interior, and wipe-down or polish of all interior surfaces, including the dashboard, windows, mirrors, and trim.

The more expensive auto detail service includes what is called a superior wax, interior detailing, leather upholstery cleaning, dent removal, white wall tires, and engine cleaning.

What are the benefits of detailing my vehicle?

Auto detailing is probably the best and most valuable maintenance program for your vehicle. Car detailing is an important single process that covers a wide variety of techniques and products which, to get the best results, require considerable skill to apply. It is considered an efficient renovation and protection of the various surfaces of a vehicle to keep it working in good condition. More Information

Where do you do this?

As we are mobile, we can do our auto detailing at your home or office, as long as our work space is not inhibited by such things as low hanging tree branches, parked cars or anything else that would limit our access to our vehicle or to your vehicle.

I hook up to your water and power which allows me to offer you rates that do not contain hidden fees for additional equipment or consumption. I won't take up half your property with a trailer towed behind me, I have all my equipment contained in my vehicle, reducing the company's impact on the environment.

And with our eco-friendly auto detailing products, you don't have to worry about anything harming our environment. More Information

How often should a vehicle be detailed?

At least once per year. Detailing has proven to be effective in getting you a better resale/trade-in price.  So, if you are planning on selling/trading your car, make sure to have it detailed within a week of selling/trading it.

It is usually when selling a vehicle that most people consider detailing. But, by that time (an average of 5 years) the vehicle has too much wear and tear to restore it to a like new condition. That's why we urge our customers to think of auto detailing as a maintenance program the same as changing the fluids, getting a tune-up or rotating the tires. Most people don't realize that in most cases, it is less expensive to replace the engine than to replace a "factory paint job"! We recommend at least 2 to 5 times a year depending on your driving and car washing habits and how you store your vehicle. Is it parked inside or outside most of the time? Do you wash it every other day or maybe only once a month? How do you wash it? Do you spend so much time in your vehicle that you feel like it's your home? These are just some of the determining factors that we consider in recommending what maintenance schedule is best for you.

When is the most critical time to get my car detailed?

We live in Arizona where the sun shines an average of 211 days per year, making nearly everyday the most critical time to get your vehicle detailed. The sun can wreak havoc on your car, causing oxidation and premature fading to its paint. Fortunately, the right maintenance routine can keep your new car looking like it just rolled out of the dealership and boost its curb appeal.
